Running ads through captchas is a relatively new tool for the advertising sector. Everyone understands that the user MUST view the ad to get through the captcha and that guaranteed viewed ad must be worth more than a banner ad or other regular video ad; but how much can a publisher expect to earn on these types of captcha ads?

The entire captcha industry serves up roughly 9 Billion captchas to users per month or 108 Billion per year. That’s a lot of blog comments, contact us forms, reset passwords, account activations and other secured web pages where captchas are served. In regards to advertising, if you simply compare banner ads to captcha ads, the main difference seems to be “may view” vs “must view”.As an example, I may click on a banner ad but I’m required to watch particular ads that are gateways to other content. I think we have all clicked on a “view video button” on a web page only to be served up with a 30 second ad before the requested video plays. In this video example, a person can tune out for those 30 seconds, but with a captcha ad, the individual has to pay attention so they can decode the puzzle to proceed. With NuCaptcha the advertiser gets both a guaranteed viewing and video format. This yields a higher CPM or CPE rate for the publisher.

We have recently done preliminary research to see what this may look like for our developers who implement large numbers of NuCaptchas on their domains. We have seen $5USD to $100USD CPM with various ad networks and video providers. As with banner ads, the dollars you earn will be based on the value the ad agencies see in your website visitors demographic. If you have website visitors from a particular sector of the market that an ad network is interested , well, you could be in for a good amount of cash at the end of the month! NuCaptcha is excited about making our Engage product available to our Basic users in the very near future. When Engage is available, you can be sure we will let you know that you can upgrade for free and we will provide users with a revenue share opportunity.
