At the South by Southwest Interactive conference today, Twitter CEO
Evan Williams announced a new feature that will make it even easier for
Twitter users to broadcast their tweets across the Web.
The new platform, called @anywhere, integrates Twitter with other
sites, so that users can send tweets and follow others directly from
those sites.
"The big thing that @anywhere does is reduce friction," said Williams.
He also said that the company, which generates about 50 million tweets a
day, expects the new platform to result in more followers for partner
sites, which, at launch, included Amazon, Yahoo, The Huffington Post and
10 other sites. If a Twitter user is reading a column, for example, he
said @anywhere would allow her to see the columnist's handle, click to
follow it and then tweet about the column, all without going to
Twitter.com.
